Message from Mr. Perfetuo:

I hope that everyone has been enjoying the summer! Despite the plentiful rain this summer, hopefully you were able to enjoy plenty of outside time and maybe caught a movie on one of those rainy days! The entire staff and I are excited to be starting a new school year. We are looking forward to seeing everyone after Labor Day and welcoming you back to Snug and welcoming our new Kindergarten and Pre-K students to our community of learners.

Much work has been done over the summer to Snug Harbor School. The floors in several classrooms have been replaced, as has the hallway in front of the office outside of rooms 1-8. The light fixtures in the hallway in front of the office have also been replaced with new LED lights. New lockers are being installed next week on the first floor. Numerous areas have been repainted-thank you to the maintenance staff. The building is looking great. Our custodians have been working incredibly hard throughout the summer cleaning classrooms and waxing the floors to a high shine. A huge thank you to our custodians Dave, Kevin, Joe, Josh, and Terryn.

We welcome several new staff members to Snug this year. Ms. Cirafice will be returning as a teaching third grade this year, she filled in for Mrs. Patey at the end of last year. Ms. Mazza will be teaching grade 5 this year. Ms. Brown will be one of our CARES teachers this year. Ms. Stevenson will also be one of our CARES teachers in Pre-K. Ms. Bloomer has moved to fourth grade. Ms. Schuboth is joining our Guidance team.

The staff and I are looking forward to a great year. Everyone is excited to meet their new students and say hi to old friends! We have all been working hard preparing for the start of a new year and are excited for all the learning that will take place this year and for the many great activities that they are planning. I am sure our students are as excited as we are and we can’t wait to see them. Enjoy these final days of summer rest, relax, and have fun!

Lastly, join Mrs. Babcock and myself on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 1:00 at the playground for a popsicle. Say hi, fill us in on your summer and celebrate the start of a new school year. -Mr. Perfetuo

Popsicles in the Park

Tuesday, September 5, 2023 @ 1:00 p.m.
Join Mr. Perfetuo & Mrs. Babcock at the playground, have a popsicle, and celebrate the end of summer and beginning of a new school year!

Morning Arrival and Drop Off

Students in Kindergarten - Grade 5 should line up in the lot behind the school in the morning for 8:15. Staff will be out there to greet them and assist with lining up in the morning. Students in CARES should be dropped off in the lower parking area by the gymnasium. Staff will be there to meet them and bring them to their classrooms. Please have your child/ren arrive to school by 8:10, so they are able to line up with their class before being let into the building at 8:15 am. In the event of rain, children will line up inside with staff supervision. We encourage all children to be at school on time so that they are able to start the day in a positive manner with their classmates and teachers and will avoid walking in on their own when the day has started.

For the safety of all our students and families, please do not pull into the rear parking area. In addition, any students/families walking around the building from the playground side are asked to walk alongside the building and not go through the parking lot. Cars are still pulling in and parking, so please be safe and walk next to the building.

PreK arrival is in the back and cars are asked to pull in and line up alongside the basketball court with your child’s name displayed in the window. Staff will walk the students to the appropriate line.

Dismissal

Dismissal for Kindergarten - Grade 5 is at 2:30 in the back parking lot at the same door the students entered the building in the morning. Any student not picked up by 2:35 will be brought to the the front office and can be picked up there. If you are running late, please call the office and let us know so we can inform the teacher and student.

Students in CARES are dismissed from the lower parking lot by the gym.

PreK students are dismissed by the basketball court at 10:10 (morning session) and 1:50 (afternoon session).

Attendance and Tardies

Regular attendance is essential for student success. Please see the information regarding the importance of regular attendance later in this newsletter. As important as regular attendance is, we do understand that students get sick and need to stay home to rest and feel better. If your child will be staying home, please call the office as early as possible so that we know.

Kindergarten & Pre-K Orientation

Orientation for Pre-K and Kindergarten will be held Friday, September 8, 2023. Additional information will be sent home next week.

Breakfast

Breakfast is served in the cafeteria beginning at 7:45 a.m. Any student wishing to have breakfast is welcome to do so. Any student in K-2 who goes to breakfast will stay in the cafeteria until 8:15 at which point they will be sent to their lines to go into the school with their class.
